I look at the local hills every day. After many years here it's still a wonder to wake up and see both of them crystal clear and sharp in the crisp morning air.
But I yearn to meet them again, as a challenge and in an act of outright love.
In a month I plan to leave the ocean shores at the foot of Kilauea and cross over the saddle to the side of Mauna Loa. I want to summit her once again, (I settle for the North Pit.) and to do that astonishing face off to the north to see her sister Mana Kea. I would like to walk that slope as well. But we will see. We will see.
